Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions. We have the answers (well, most of the time).

How long should I plan for my child to prepare for the test?

We recommend allowing 4 to 6 weeks of preparation, depending on your child’s comfort with the material. The most effective practice is consistent practice. A student who can spend 20 to 30 minutes every couple days practicing the techniques and strategies will see more progress than a student cramming 3 to 4 hours at a time once a week.

Are practice tests included in the course?

There is only one source I would recommend for practice tests for diagnostic purposes, and that is ERB themselves. You can view their practice tests here: https://www.erblearn.org/families/isee-preparation/#ERB. There are many sources for practice tests used only for preparation, that is, used for practicing the techniques and strategies that students will most need to master for the exam, and we make many of those available as part of the course.

Is this course suitable for students with different skill levels?

Absolutely! Students can work through the videos and materials at their own pace. The course is designed specifically for students taking the Upper Level ISEE (typically, students applying to 9th grade and above), though students taking the Middle Level ISEE may also find the strategies and techniques helpful.

How often can my child take the ISEE?

Your child can take the ISEE up to three times in a 12-month period—once during each of the three testing seasons: fall (August–November), winter (December–March), and spring/summer (April–July). Taking the test more than once can help students improve their scores by giving them a chance to work on areas of difficulty and gain familiarity with the test format. However, my recommendation is that students plan to participate in just one official administration, signing up for a second time only if there is a significant discrepancy between the score they get and the score they desire.

How does the course help my child with time management during the test?

There are primarily two ways in which we help prepare students for the pacing demands of the test. The first is the length of our instructional videos. Each video is roughly timed to coincide with the actual timing per section within the test. Students will find their test-taking stamina improves as they work alongside the videos. The second is the actual pacing strategies we recommend within the course.

What materials does my child need to take the course?

Everything they need is included in the course, like practice questions and lesson content. Your child just needs a device with internet access and a quiet place to focus.
